Pet care during Diwali

Diwali is drawing near, and it is time for all of the celebrations, however, our pets may suffer from the loud sound of firecrackers. Here are some helpful tips for keeping your four-legged pals safe and happy this Diwali.

  1. Plan ahead of time

When Diwali approaches, begin planning ahead of time to reduce your pet’s stress. Start playing firecracker noises in your residence to get your pet acquainted with the sound. Start by playing music at a low volume. Begin slowly and progressively increase the intensity. Consult a veterinarian or trainer for advice and medications to help your pet relax.

  1. Your energy influences their energy

Your nervousness might worsen your pet’s stress. So, despite the ear-splitting sound of bursting firecrackers, people should remain calm and act normally around their four-legged pals.

The last thing you want during Diwali is for your pets to feel unhappy and lonely while you are busy celebrating. This will just increase their uneasiness and agitation. During this stressful time, play with your pets, lavish them with attention, offer them their favourite goodies, and hug them so they feel loved and can cope with the cacophony of bursting firecrackers. Involve your pet in the celebrations if you’re throwing a Diwali party at home.

  1. Morning strolls

Nobody lights off fireworks at 6 a.m. This is an excellent time to take your pet for a relaxing walk. To avoid disrupting your pet’s routine, try to get them used to this time a few days before Diwali. Early morning walks will wear your pet out, allowing them to sleep more soundly.

  1. Remove the noise.

Keep the doors, windows, and main entrance of the home closed to ensure that there is minimum noise coming from outside. Turn on the television or listen to some soothing music. This will calm your pet and distract them from the noise outside. You might also want to cover their ears with earmuffs or a blanket.

  1.  Ensure your pet’s hydration.

Your dog will be panting frequently as a result of the stress and anxiety caused by the loud sound of firecrackers. This will lead him to salivate more, dehydrating him. So, make sure your pet has plenty of food and water during these times. Keep a bowl of water nearby at all times.

  1. Do not allow your pet to consume Diwali sweets.

Another big risk that all pets confront during the holiday season is the desire to ingest festival foods such as sweets and fried foods. Sugar is extremely harmful to dogs and can lead to major health issues. For Diwali, gift them pet-friendly snacks prepared just for them. As you get busy with festival preparations, don’t forget to feed and exercise your four-legged pals.

Diwali is a festival of joy and light and it will be a lot of fun, and it’s also a wholesome time to spend with family. However, every holiday must be observed properly and with consideration for our pet pals.
